Second Week of Construction, Day 6

Humidity was down today (compared to last week), and the workmen put in a lot of effort.  First they constructed a new roof on the overhang for the garage.  By doing that, they provided themselves with an easy and less expensive way of getting the roof trusses up where they needed them.  Here's how they did it:

You'll notice in the first picture there is one man on the ground, one man on the newly constructed garage overhang, and in the third one you can see a man inside the room.  I thought this was a clever way to avoid the expense of a crane (especially since we insisted on that steel beam for which a crane was a necessary item!).

And now you can see the first truss in place on the end of the roof of the new room.

By the end of the day, all the trusses were in place.  In the following shot you'll be able to see the Boss-man checking his work after hammering the final truss in place before they all left for their homes.

All I did was paint in the morning and my back hurt for the rest of the day.  Guess it's a good thing I never worked construction!

  1. I'm thinking construction would not have been a good career choice for you. Anyhow, the addition is looking great and they are coming right along. Bet the roof will be done tonight! Where's the plumber and electrician? Are we getting ready for them yet? This is terribly exciting!
